Morrowind and Oblivion

The rescent mission I am doing is given to me by Vivec. He has asked me to find the red chest, so I have travelled to Ghostgate and searched for the red chest in the Red Mountains and I did also find it in a cavern under a bridge. So I entered the cavern and got a journal update, I went further in and found some dead persons and got this journal entry "...I came across the bodies of two agents...I must press on further into this hell-hole...", so I did that and finaly I did find the red chest (Chest of fire) - but this time I didn't get any journal entry.

I think I have tried everything to get the journal entry. I have clicked on the chest in every spot (I don't have the key yet), walket around it, levitated, walked back to the entrance and walked all the way in again and clicked on the chest again, but nothing happens. I even went back to Vivec but he has nothing to say to me.

I have even restared the game from an earlier save and redone the quest -but with the same result = no journal entry.

So, please tell me...is there something I have missed in the cavern, something that I should have found or made that triggers the journal entry? If not, could you please tell me what to write in the console to get the journal entry so that I can go on playing?

I'll take a look at this later today. But I'm sure this bug was fixed in v2.8

OK, I've looked at it. At some prior stage in the game you must have had this message, and presumably forgot about it:

The chest hums as you approach it...

And, that's all you get until you find the key. So there's no problem.

I have now replayed this mission from an earlier save, but the red chest doesn't "hum" when I approach it and nothing in the journal about "humming" or that I have found the red chest. After I have found it should I not get a journal entry that tells me what to do next? like go back to Vivec and report or do something else?

As I don't get that information I don't know what to do next. Suggestion?

It gives you no information. You have to open it when you get the key. You need to explore the northern coast of the Northlands.
